About Me
Born on the south side of Chicago and raised in Mountain View, California, Andre Owens is a multifaceted creator working across photography, film, music, graphic design, astrophotography, and writing. His work is fueled by an endless curiosity about the universe and a profound spiritual connection to life, inviting audiences to explore the beauty and mystery of existence.
Like thousands of other young minds, Andre’s childhood sparked his interest in the cosmos. The abundance of dreams and the enigma of the night sky perfectly fueled his curiosity. However, as he transitioned into adulthood—with career obligations, family, and life’s demands—this desire for exploration took a backseat. Still, he never lost that sense of wonderment, often finding himself gazing up into the night sky, quietly reconnecting with the same awe he felt as a child.
In late 2018, Andre returned to exploring the universe, this time using astrophotography as his primary medium. What began as a creative experiment quickly revealed a discouraging truth: equipment can be intimidating, astrophotography can be costly, and there’s a lack of clearly written, accessible information for beginners. Instead of walking away, he chose to lean in. Through hands-on experimentation, research, and trial and error, he developed approaches to experiencing the night sky that would be simple enough for anyone, regardless of their financial resources or technical knowledge.
With encouragement from his family to create a connection between conversation and creativity, Andre launched Lunar Junkie—more than just a name or website, but a community where people can share experiences, continue their education through honest dialogue, and grow together. He finds inspiration in how today’s technological advancements are allowing people to access parts of the universe that previously seemed out of reach. To him, space is not merely about distant galaxies and celestial bodies but a reflection of time, scale, purpose, and existence itself.
Looking forward, Andre envisions Lunar Junkie as an invitation for everyone to look up more often, learn a little bit at a time, increase their self-awareness, and rebuild a sense of connection with the universe and with each other. The stars will continue to offer us new wonders as long as we choose to continue exploring them together.
